I’m in need of a bit of help, as I’ve well and truly messed up my redhat9 system.

I’ve been trying to install Gimp2 and started to load the many dependencies.
(glib-2.2.2 / pkgconfig-0.15.0 / atk-1.2.4 / freetype-2.1.7 the list goes on…)

As I couldn’t get an RPM for ‘gtk+-2.2.2’, I user ‘Checkinstall’ to update the RPM db.

This is as far as I got before shutting down the system.

The problem started the next time I ran the system up. All seems OK until X starts, as all I get is the hourglass (no login, no errors).

I can still open a console session and have looked through the log files (boot, messages & Xfree86) but nothing stands out as an error. (but then, I’m not too sure what to look for)

Any idea what I should look at next?
Tell me, if posting a copy of any log files would help.

I thought I would give this forum a go first, as I’ve been meaning to pop along to your meeting.

BUT as you seem a bit light on members - if you can’t help, can you suggest somewhere else I could post?

Thanks,
Mud

it's fixed...

I found I could use redhat up2date from the console, so I've been able to undo all the crap I put in.

Just means I'm at square one with loading Gimp2. Surprised(

When I posted that, there was only about 6 registered users on the forum.

I've yet to get to one of the meetings, so I was only talking 'Virtual' members.
